![]() It's all about keeping it simple right? Cheerio, happy hump day. ![]() Yes these pieces are rather basic, but they look great and won't let you down if they fit correctly. Just in case you're curious, here are some of my favorites from the collection: Here is the link to check the collection out. The official launch will be October 3rd their new Philly store, but the rest of us will have to wait till October 10th when it comes out to all the other stores and online. They're saying pieces will range from $39.90 to $229.90. The good news is that Uniqlo's +J collection won't be anywhere close to that price tag. I mean we're talking $700 for a pair of cotton pants. Anyhow, one thing that you can be sure of when buying Jil Sander is that most pieces are ludicrously priced. Her stuff is often eclectic, dare I say weird, but you all know how the high fashion game works. ![]() The Uniqlo +J line was one of the first collaboration efforts Uniqlo had ever done with an outside fashion designer. This one was with the legendary Jil Sander.įor those of you who don't know, Jil Sander is a very respectable player in the high fashion game, both for men and women. Now, since I know vastly more about menswear today than I did back then, here's some context for you. Uniqlo just recently announced that they will be bringing back their +J line this month. Well, it seems as though good things come to those who wait. I literally ran to a salesman to find out if any of the pieces were in my size (by then the stock was mostly oversized), but it was all to no avail. I didn't really know what that meant, but I distinctly remember being impressed with the collection, both in quality and style. Nonetheless, I remember seeing a really nice line of menswear pieces out in the back of the store marked with a +J logo on the tags. 2/11 Jil Sander Uniqlo +J oversized shirt jacket 80 at UNIQLO 3/11 Jil Sander Uniqlo +J supima cotton oversized half-sleeve t-shirt 20 at UNIQLO 4/11 Jil Sander Uniqlo +J sheer. The good news was that the store didn't disappoint. Even today, I still think of Uniqlo as one of the best companies out there providing stylish clothing at an affordable price.Īdmittedly, at the time, I didn't know nearly as much about menswear as I do today. Having made the trek all the way out there from San Francisco, I had pretty high expectations, especially since I had heard so much about Uniqlo from friends who had visited that were re-buying their entire wardrobes from the store. The technology and the fabrications weren’t available.I think it was 2010 when I walked into a Uniqlo store for the first time. Back then, the only city with a physical Uniqlo store outside of Japan was New York City. “If I could have done a high street collection of this quality 50 years ago, I probably would have, but it wasn’t possible. “It gives me such joy to think that many people will be able to buy these pieces,” she says. At her eponymous label, which she finally left for good in 2013, a coat might cost £2,000. It’s the affordability of the +J proposition that reeled her in again. So here we are on a grey day talking on the phone, she seated at the long table where she works in her Hamburg studio, dressed in navy jumper and trousers. And yet with her home town of Hamburg locking down again, she has circled back to see if she can repeat the same magic. Seventy-six-year-old Sander is sufficiently wealthy, successful and otherwise engaged in life-enhancing projects such as her garden, and museum curation, to have left fashion behind. Eleven years on, there are plenty of customers, including yours truly, who still wear some of the pieces from that launch. In 2009, not long after the Financial Crash, the German designer Jil Sander, internationally renowned for her quietly luxurious fabrics and precise, delicate minimalism, launched an affordable collection for Uniqlo that set a benchmark for high street collaborations.
